The health benefits of yoga are extensively documented, ranging from its effect on the practitioners mental state, cardiovascular health, and overall flexibility. The first class of the morning will be geared towards all practitioners, including first timers and beginners, while the subsequent class will focus on slightly more advanced techniques. Those who are active yoga enthusiasts are encouraged to take both classes back-to-back for a full 1.5 hour session.

Class Description: Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan) is a Chinese martial art, a highly effective form of self defense that also deeply considers the longevity of its practitioners. Celebrated for its health benefits, the study of Taijiquan pursues body alignment, harmonious natural movement, serenity of mind & the balance of Yin & Yang. In doing so, the practitioner returns to the original state of balance known as Wu Ji. Myriad benefits of regular practice include improved blood circulation, reduced stress, strengthened bones & connective tissue, improved balance & more developed self awareness. Julie has been practicing Yang style Taijiquan for 7 years in the lineage of Grandmaster Henry Look. She also studies Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu & Long Fist Kung Fu.
Principles of Shiatsu

Class Description: Shiatsu is a Japanese tradition of touch therapy that emerged from traditional Chinese medicine & Tui Na, with Buddhist & Shinto influences. Shiatsu ("finger pressure") utilizes acupressure, fascial release, chiropractic techniques (not legal to practice in Texas), dietary study * diagnostic observations to promote recovery & regulation of body systems. Like Thai Massage, Shiatsu is practiced on the floor without the use of cream or oil; the client remains fully clothed. The practitioner does not heal the client; rather, the practice of Shiatsu aims to help restore optimal conditions for the body to heal itself. This class will focus on explaining the underlying principles of Shiatsu. Attendees may also sign up for Shiatsu massages for an additional charge.

Foraging Nature Walk

Class Description: Paul Cuclis will lead you on a walking tour of Pine Creek Ranch to forage the natural bounty of Texas spring time. During the tour, he will show you several ways to identify and prepare edible flora, as well as explain some of the historic medicinal and nutritional applications of various trees, shrubs, and herbs. Participants are encouraged to forage as much as possible, as Chef Mary Cuclis will (after careful review of the ingredients) incorporate them into a custom catered foraged lunch.
